Neil Cowan, Executive Director at the Armadale Kalamunda Group (AKG), has been appointed as the EMHS Executive Director of Business Performance and Finance, effective Monday 20 January 2025.
Since joining EMHS in 2019, Neil has really made his mark within the organisation, first as Director Corporate Services Financial Reform and then Co-Director for the Surgical Division within the Royal Perth Bentley Group and since July 2022 as AKG Executive Director.
In his role at AKG, Neil has been instrumental in delivering significant achievements, including overseeing the finalisation of the $9.5M Kalamunda Hospital redevelopment, expanding palliative care services, transitioning community mental health to the purpose-built Orchard Avenue Centre, increasing emergency surgery capacity and endoscopy capacity, and leading the implementation of the AKG Digital Medical Record which now has more than two million live records.
His dedication to EMHS values-based leadership, improving patient care, and strengthening services for local communities has made a meaningful impact both within our organisation and externally.
In his new role, Neil will focus on supporting finance and business teams with his usual kindness and excellence - implementing specific specialty reporting to help clinicians reduce any unwarranted clinical variation, refreshing the budget-setting process, continuing to drive cost improvements, and further assessing overhead costs, while in tandem, making financial information more readily accessible to key stakeholders.
