Maternity Services

Maternity Services

Our team of obstetricians, paediatricians, and midwifery and nursing staff are committed to providing safe and high quality care to women and their babies.

Armadale Hospital offers a range of care options for women during their pregnancy and at delivery.

Each year, our busy maternity unit sees more than 2400 births. We are able to maintain a high rate of vaginal births and have achieved good success rates for women trying for vaginal births after a previous caesarean section.

Our maternity unit promotes and supports mothers in breastfeeding and has been accredited by the Australian College of Midwives as a Baby Friendly Hospital (external site).

You may not be able see a female doctor

We know that many women may wish to see a female doctor during pregnancy. However, this is not always possible.

Armadale Health Service (AHS) has a highly trained and skilled team who will provide you with respectful care and understanding regardless of their gender.

Our doctors are also required to keep your personal information confidential.

When you arrive the doctor you initially see may not be your ongoing doctor. You will be assigned to a doctor based on current resourcing. We are unable to accept any requests for a specific doctor.

Many women will not need a vaginal examination during their pregnancy, especially for check-ups. However, if you require a vaginal examination, you can have another person with you while the doctor examines you. This may be a friend, a relative or a female AHS employee.

If you have any concerns about your care, call the Consumer Liaison Office on (08) 9391 1153 or email AKG_consumerliaison@health.wa.gov.au.
